For the first time, SpaceX's massive Starship rocket survived reentry through Earth's atmosphere and executed a soft landing in the Indian Ocean.

The Tiles Held

The biggest concern—heat shield tiles—appeared to hold up well enough to protect the ship, despite visible plasma damage on the live stream. This paves the way for the ambitious "Mechazilla" catch attempt later this year.
